Brief Program Summary
Our learning community serves as a microcosm of this major research university: we admit 128 first-year students, regardless of major. Rather than basing selection on grades and/or SAT, we have each applicant submit two essays, focusing on the qualities we emphasize throughout our program: CURIOSITY and THE DESIRE TO LEARN. Each semester we offer six Liberal Studies courses in our 22-seat classroom. Each fall all of our residents enroll in our weekly Colloquium, and each spring they have the option of enrolling in 1-credit-hour mentorships: opportunities for three to six residents to work closely with a faculty member, pursuing a topic of mutual interest (while some focus on potential careers, such as in communication or criminology, others zero in on memory, on _The New Yorker_, and so on).
