Brief Program Summary
The students in "Rhythm" will have a freshman year filled with dance and anything else that our nationís Capital has to offer. Students may see a ballet at the National Theatre, learn to salsa at dusk atop the Kennedy Center, ice skate at the Sculpture Garden, take part in one of the GW Dance Departmentís many shows, or even produce and perform in their own dance exhibition. Some students may even participate in a GW dance student group

The Role of Community Partnerships
Communities are strongly encouraged to form partnerships with the other communities when planning events. We understand that working with other communities encourages the teamwork that is necessary in the real world, and it also provides the community members with an opportunity to learn about topics that may be different to their own focus. We also recommend linkages with the outside community by encouraging our communities to attend events at major sites and events in the DC metropolitan area, including the Kennedy Center, The Spy museum, Taste of DC and numerous walks within the district such as The DC AIDS walk, the Walk for the Homeless and Breast Cancer Walk. We also encourage our communities to participate in community based events such as the Martin Luther King Day of Service and the Clean up Foggy Bottom drive.
The Role of Leadership Development
Each of our communities is led by a live in student staff member who is responsible for coordinating meetings and for providing guidance to the community members when planning events. The students in the community also have the opportunity to be a member of the leadership team of their community. The leadership team is responsible for planning events, advertising, liaising with other communities and many other management related tasks.

Summary of Assessment Activities
For assessment we look at the GPAís of the members of the overall community GPAís in comparison to other communities and with the GPAís of freshmen who are not members of communities. We also take note of student involvement within the communities and on campus in general, student judicial information and the number of roommate issues that they have.

The Role of Interdisciplinary Studies
Our initiative curriculum encourages educational programming in the community. the curriculum includes citizenship (developing students into active & Responsible members of the community), Scholarship (the pursuit of knowledge & academic success, and Leadership (the art of mobilizing others to achieve shared aspirations). The leadership team of the community is responsible for using the curriculum guidelines to plan the events that each community hosts.

This community participates in events on campus that are particularly related to multiculturalal understanding and diversity. Our communities are also comprised of students from various backgrounds and ethnicities. This melting pot of students allows for diversity to be an intrinsic feature of our community.
