Brief Program Summary
The Honors Hall is a residential component of the university Honors Program and supports Honors students in their intellectual and personal growth through programs, intraction with faculty and staff, student leadership, and service to the community. Participation in the Honors Hall program is restricted to students in the University Honors Program and their roommates.

Academic Courses Offered In The Community
Honors Seminars: Seminars in a variety of areas and topics. Generally, these are 3 credit hour academic courses. Honors Colloquium: One hour discussion group of honors students, offered each semester. Strength Through Cultural Diversity (IDS 159): Three hour academic course. All courses required for students in the University Honors Program (not required for the residence hall).

Computer Resources in the Residence Hall
Computer lab in the hall is available to all honors students, not just those who reside in the hall.

The Role of Community Partnerships
Honors Charity Auction Service to the community through the Honors Colloquium course.

The Role of Leadership Development
Students serve on the hall council, the Honors Board, and are involved in Students Serving Others, a service organization. Many students are involved in the "Urban Leadership Internship Program," a program run through the Honors Department.

Summary of Assessment Activities
Themed residence halls at Miami conducted assessments in the fall semester on the general interests and needs of the students in the community as well as their motivations for joining the program. A more general assessment was done on the living/learning experience of all students in the residence halls.

The Role of Interdisciplinary Studies
The IDS 159 course required for the program is an interdisiplinary course. Honors Programs are by nature interdisciplinary, as they encompass all majors.

How Diversity Issues are Addressed in the Program and in Courses
Diversity is discussed in the colloquium course and is the focus of IDS 159, Strength through Cultural Diversity. Both are required for the University Honors Program. Diversity is discussed in the Honors Seminars as it is related to the subject material.

Disciplines Represented by the Faculty
Many disciplines are represented in the 70 plus faculty who teach honors seminar courses, teach the honors colloquium, participate in the co-curricular activities or are involved with the honors office, or teach the honors colloquium course.

Greatest Challenges for this Learning Community:
Students in the Honors Program do not all live in Bishop, the Honors Residence Hall. This causes some division between the two groups as the non residential students do not feel that Bishop is their place.
