Brief Program Summary
Arts Scholars Are you an artist? A performance musician, an arranger, or a composer? A dancer or choreographer? A budding art critic or art scholar? A possible arts administrator? Maybe youíre interested in theatre, be it acting, writing, directing, sets, or the like. Or maybe youíre not sure exactly what you want to do in the arts, only that a life and career connected with one or more of the arts or the art world is essential to your picture of yourself as you make your way through college and on to a career.
As an Arts Scholar in the College of the Arts, you will have available to you one of the finest constellations of art instructors and scholars in the world. You will have the opportunity to live and work with other arts-oriented students, while taking classes in your first year not just with them but also with students outside the arts, to give your first year both the focus and the balance that you need. You will also receive one-on-one advising and mentoring, so that you will not need to delay the process of exploring the arts options that are open to you as an Arts Scholar. This will enable you to identify the classes youíll need to take to prepare yourself for the specialization you either already know you want or that you wish to find in the course of your first year or two at Ohio State.
Unique to your life as an Arts Scholar at Ohio State will be the option of living in our new arts residence hall, Baker West. There you will have available to you a newly designed theatre space, galleries, and other critically important facilities necessary for your early education. And, in addition, you will have the opportunity to interact with both faculty and other students in the production and enjoyment of all sorts of artistic endeavors.
